performance BIO

Julia Discenza holds a B.A. in Biology and Dance from Barnard College, Columbia University. She studied contemporary dance in Paris through in Barnard College and University of South Florida Dance, and trained in contemporary dance, Flying Low, and Gaga at Dance Italia in Lucca, Italy. She received additional training at Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts and Springboard Danse Montreal, where she collaborated on a new work with Shannon Gillen of VIM|VIGOR. She has worked professionally with Gibney Dance Company, NobleMotion Dance (Houston, TX), Pilobolus Dance Theater, Bryan Arias’ ARIAS Company, Soluq Dance Theater, Gregory Dolbashian’s DASH Ensemble, Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup, Nicole Von Arx/NVA & Guests, MICHIYAYA, Mary John Frank and Trainor Dance. Julia has also performed as a dancer and singer with nathantrice/RITUALS Dance Theater. She has appeared in music videos featuring musical artists AYA JACK, Noah Souder-Russo and her own dance films.

teaching

Julia teaches contemporary dance, improvisation, and floorwork-focused classes to all ages. She has taught for Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts summer program, NobleMotion Dance Intensives, James Madison University, Kinections Dancegroup, and Gibney. Through Gibney she served as a Community Actionist, teaching movement workshops to children in domestic violence shelters and using dance in public schools to facilitate conversation around healthy relationship skills. Currently available for guest workshops and master classes.
